Understanding Mental Health and Well-being in Later Life

The “Understanding Mental Health and Well-being in Later Life” workshop series, designed by the Provincial System Support Program (PSSP) at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), is a vital program aimed at enhancing the mental health of older adults aged 65 and over.

These series of workshops address essential topics such as common mental health conditions, effective coping strategies, and the resources available to support well-being. Since 2019, in partnership with the PSSP Advisory Committee at CAMH, we have integrated valuable insights from lived experiences, which have informed our approach and driven action within diverse communities across the province.

The workshops draw upon real-life experiences to empower seniors with evidence-based information on critical issues like mental health, addiction, social isolation, and loneliness. Participants in this series will deepen their understanding of mental health challenges, learn practical coping techniques, and access important resources to enrich their lives.

Evidence Based Workshops for Older Adults

Our primary goal is to raise awareness of mental health issues among seniors and foster proactive help-seeking behaviors. We provide essential resources that can meaningfully impact their lives.

As the lead facilitator, we have delivered these workshops both virtually and in person throughout Ontario for seven years, showcasing our steadfast commitment to this vital field. Our proficient mental health professionals uphold the highest standards of quality. We are also proud to partner with the Toronto Public Library, ensuring these invaluable resources are accessible to seniors across various branches in the City of Toronto.

 This workshop series covers a wide range of mental health, addiction, and substance use topics, aiming to inform and empower older adults. Topics include depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, psychosis, delirium, dementia, use of opioids and other medications, cannabis and alcohol, gambling, positive mental health, and navigating the mental health care system, ensuring that our audience feels confident and capable.
